  10.         The HP Router CR is a high-performance, multiprotocol router and
  11.      bridge. It can be used to interconnect any number of LAN networks to
  12.      create an "internetwork" which links together LANs on a single site,
  13.      and/or connects LANs at multiple sites via high-speed links.

  15.      Highlights
  16.      o Concurrent Multiprotocol Routing and Bridging:  The HP Router CR can
  17.        be configured to support concurrent operation of five popular routing
  18.        protocols:  TCP/IP, DECnet IV, Novell(r) IPX, Xerox XNS, and AppleTalk
  19.        II. For packets that cannot be routed, the router can function as an
  20.        Ethernet/802.3 learning bridge with the IEEE Spanning Tree protocol
  21.        and/or as a Token Ring (802.5) bridge with the Source Routing
  22.        Transparent protocol. It can also connect to X.25 networks in a
  23.        variety of configurations.
  24.      o Flexibility:  By adding the appropriate network interfaces, the router
  25.        can be configured to support from 2 to 8 LAN ports or a maximum of 16
  26.        WAN ports. It can also be used in combination with the HP Router ER
  27.        and HP Remote Bridge to create cost effective internetworks.
  28.      o High Performance: The HP Router CR employs a parallel, multiprocesser
  29.        architecture for excellent LAN-to-LAN performance, even in
  30.        multiprotocol networks with high traffic loads

  35.      o Provides concurrent multiprotocol routing and bridging for maximum
  36.        flexibility in connecting different multivendor devices on the
  37.        network.
  38.      o Offers five standard routing protocols:  TCP/IP, DECnet IV, Xerox XNS,
  39.        Novell IPX, and AppleTalk II.
  40.      o Operates concurrently as a multiport Ethernet/802.3 bridge with the
  41.        IEEE 802.1 Spanning Tree Protocol and/or Token Ring (802.5) bridge
  42.        with the Source Routing Transparent protocol.
  43.      o Allows connection of Ethernet/802.3 networks to Token Ring (802.5) for
  44.        networks using TCP/IP, Novell IPX, and/or AppleTalk II protocols.
  45.      o Supports the standard protocols used for routing table management in
  46.        multiple router networks:  Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Routing
  47.        Information Protocol (RIP).
  48.      o Supports from 2 to 8 Ethernet/802.3 connections via the standard AUI
  49.        port.
  50.      o Supports from 1 to 4 Token Ring (802.5) connections at 4 or 16 Mbit/s
  51.        via the mini DB-9 connector.
  52.      o Can transfer data through X.25 public data networks (PDNs).
  53.      o Supports up to 16 synchronous WAN connections. Different interface
  54.        cable options provide RS-232, RS-422/449, V.35, or X.21 interfaces.
  55.        Supports data rates up to 2.048 Mbit/s.
  56.      o Allows load balancing between multiple WAN links of equal bandwidth.
  57.      o Allows synchronous traffic from X.25 packet switches and/or mainframe
  58.        terminal controllers to be integrated with router traffic over one set

  68.        the network.
  69.      o Provides a wide variety of filtering options for network security and
  70.        isolation.
  71.      o Supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Works with
  72.        HP OpenView Network Management Software. Also manageable via the
  73.        router's console (RS-232) port or Telnet (remote terminal) access over
  74.        the network.
  75.      o Supports remote installation of new versions of HP Router CR software
  76.        over the network using the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP).
  77.      o Optionally mounts in a standard 19-inch rack using the built-in
  78.        mounting brackets.
